Chris Gonzales was born in Oelwein, Iowa, on December 25, 1952.
His family subsequently moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where he graduated from Waterloo West High School. Chris graduated from the University of Iowa in 1977 and married his former wife, Doreen Staskal, in 1978. Together they had two sons who were the light of his life.
Chris taught elementary school in Iowa for several years. In 1987, his family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where he taught for over twenty years in the Poudre School District. Chris was a devoted father whose favorite hobby was following his sons to their various activities.
Chris leaves behind two sons and two grandchildren: Todd, his wife, Kristel, and their daughter, Amelia Bellina; and Derek, his wife, Mikey, and their son, Carter Warren. He is also survived by four siblings and their families: Ann Shearer, Chuck Gonzales, Gene Gonzales, and Sherry Frost. Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret, and father, Rudy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Coronavirus Response Fund for Nurses or the National Parks Conservation Association in honor of Chris.
