Patrick Mark Michalicek, age 71, of Buffalo passed away April 30, 2024. He passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones in his home.
Pat may be remembered most for his dedication to his family and community. He gave his time, attention, and all his heart to bringing people together. He was extremely loyal to his family and supported them with all their endeavors. It may be impossible to count the amount of sporting events, band concerts, and other extracurricular events he attended over multiple decades, for multiple generations of nieces and nephews. He went above and beyond to ensure his family’s happiness and success, providing them with opportunities and support whenever needed. He always made sure every kid had gifts at Christmas, spending months preparing for the big celebration. He loved big celebrations.
Pat’s generosity knew no bounds, and this showed through his community service, as well. As past president of the Buffalo Rotary and Minnesota state vice-president of the Jaycees, he helped bring people together to make a difference in the lives of others. His community service brought him great joy. He was proud of what he and his colleagues were able to achieve.
Pat was proud of his alma maters and remained a lifelong fan of Iowa State and Purdue University, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, respectively. When watching his teams play, he enjoyed engaging in competitive banter with family and friends. College sports was just another way for him to bring people together and celebrate.
Pat was a historian and genealogist. He spent countless hours interviewing people and researching records so he could tell their stories. He wrote a history of the Maple Lake community. He wrote a history of his own family, including a special tribute to his father.
Patrick was born on March 26, 1953, in Cherokee, Iowa to Steve and Doloris (Hohn) Michalicek. Patrick grew up in Iowa and attended West Waterloo High School, where he graduated with the class of 1971. After college, he made the move to Maple Lake, Minnesota to live near his family. He has been a resident in the Maple Lake/Buffalo area ever since.
Patrick is preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Doloris; brothers, Andrew and Michael; sister, Judie Rose; nephews, Christopher, Astra, and Thomas; and niece, Angie.
He is survived by his brothers, Stephen (Linda), Randall (Carol), and Arnie (Gloria); sisters, Maribeth (Earl) Tuttle, Karolyn (Larry) Skudlarek, Kathleen Michalicek, and Anne (Michael James) Fordyce; sisters-in-law, Cheryl and Julie Michalicek; brother-in-law, David Rose; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and many close friends.
